– JULY 13-16, 2015
We have rode the train from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, an island which is more developed than the larger Malaysia country. We arrived at midnight, so we had to hop onto a late ferry (only a 15 minute ride) to get to Penang. The ferry docks right at the bus terminal, which was super convenient! We enjoyed our time in Penang so much that we will stop here again in January on our way to a festival in Kuala Lumpur.
We took the bus to our hotel and it was very efficient at just after midnight. The bus stopped right by our hotel, so we walked a short stroll to hit the check-in desk. The hotel was recently renovated and a welcome change to some of the “lesser” places we have stayed.

Penang hotel breakfast toast station….they really have to tell people to toast the bread BEFORE adding butter and jam. LOL!!!
The shore line was littered with boats and high rise hotels. Some people were digging for oysters on the beach.
The city has art pieces throughout the city for tourists to search and find. The walls are either painted or metal sculptures are placed right in front of a wall so they look like paint. They are random in nature and range from the funny to beautiful. See them, below.
Penang is a beautiful island city and we didn’t see everything we wanted since we are returning in January. Got to keep some mysteries for us down the line! We will be taking a bus next for a trip to the Cameron Highlands.
