Australia – Airlie Beach

– MAY 08-09, 2015

Our next stop is at Airlie Beach. This is pretty much the most southern edge of the Great Barrier Reef.  Here we will stay for a couple of nights and then board a yacht to sail the Whitsunday islands.  Airlie Beach is a very nice little resort town, not a surfing mecca but rather a party destination as people either prepare for their Whitsundays sail or are just returning from it.

Magnums is the largest and most popular hostel in Airlie Beach.  It is reasonably priced and offers a party atmosphere or a quiet sanctuary for whatever you’re looking for.

After check-in you have to cross a bridge to reach the rooms. It was a very nicely laid out set of buildings.

Magnums shared kitchen facilities. Backpackers just do not understand how to wash dishes and wipe counters. Obviously they don’t do it themselves at home.

Now onto the Whitsundays sailing adventure…3 days-2nights of sailing/snorkelling/scuba diving on an approx. 68 foot yacht!
