Jill arranged for a Thai food cooking course today with the Basil Cooking School in Chiang Mai. We were picked up at our hotel at 8:45am and promptly taken to the local food market to select our ingredients for the day.

Our cooking instructor did a nice job explaining the ingredients and the differences between the varieties, but unlike our Vietnam class they did not actually do the shopping with us. Part of the fun is understanding why a certain ingredient is ripe vs. not yet ripe.

After picking up our ingredients we drove to the cooking school. The brochure states that they only have class sizes of no more than 6 to display their advantage over the other cooking schools, but our group was 7 and the other timeslot was 8. So much for the smaller class sizes.

Some of the prep ingredients were already cut and done for some of the dishes. This was a bit unfortunate, as in our Vietnam cooking class we had to do all of our prep and cooking for each course.

Our instructor was well spoken and did a nice job showing everyone how easy Thai cooking really is. It was a day full of cooking, eating and meeting some nice people in our group. A good day with some more Yi Peng celebrations to come tonight.
