– OCTOBER 11, 2015
The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon scenic area is located 15km east of the city. It covers an area of 56.19 sqkm. It boasts the mountain, water, cave and cultural history of Zhangjiajie. The developed canyon is 3.5 km long with a vertical height of more than 400 m. Within the park are deep valleys, cutting cliffs, hanging vines and clear streams. The waterfalls contained here are flying, spraying, curtaining, linear and misty types. This area offers the longest wooden plank road in China and the only rock slide track in the Hunan Province.
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is currently constructing the tallest and longest glass bridge in the world, 380 meters long and 300 meters from the bottom of the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. There will be a bungee jump, which will be the highest in the world. It was originally scheduled to be completed in July 2015, fell behind schedule and was then expected to be ready for October 2015, and now is behind schedule again and won’t be done before January 2016. Internet sites will still say it is open now, but trust us that it is not completed at this time. See the pics below.

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon – When completed, a full view of Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon can be seen by standing on the glass bridge. Walking over the glass bridge will be a challenge if you have the slightest fear of heights.

One Line Sky
In a narrow and long gorge close to the entrance gate of Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is a path 700 meters long, surrounded by cliffs 300 meters high. It looks like a passageway to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. It is a nice place to experience the grandeur of steep cliffs. Looking at the sky from this narrow gorge, you feel like the sky has become small.
The Sky Ladder
The Sky Ladder is a wooden walkway that appears as a ladder along steep cliffs and ridges. It spans from the top of a mountain down to the bottom. After a three minutes walk along the Sky Ladder, visitors can have a bird’s eye view of One Line Sky.
The Slide-Way
The slide-way combines the functions of transportation, entertainment, sightseeing, as well as environmental protection. This slide-way is made of smooth granite, 600 meters long. The scenery is great while taking this slide-way from the top of mountain.
Bandits Cave
It is named after the many bandits who lived in this cave long ago. The local police wanted to arrest the bandits, but the bandits’ cave was hidden in the mountains, and was very easy to defend, so the police couldn’t capture them.
Next we are taking a multi-day train ride to the city of Wulong for another mountain and some fun that’s “more than meets the eye“.
